Kaleidoscope

That’s all it is:
a continuously
changing pattern
of shapes and colors.

Who could blame you
for believing it would be different?
Predictable, that with the twist of my hand
I control the display.

It seemed the faster
I turned the cylinder
the more impeccable
the design became.

But the image is never good enough for me.

Now, I know the secret.
The picture is fragile,
it’s impossible to place each
tiny, triangular shard of glass
back the way it was,
to recreate the image

I closed in my hand.

Expect the thing to turn.
Wait for it to change.
Find balance
in the way
it pieces
together
now.
